BREAKTHROUGH August 2004
Researchers in Australia have identified genetic alterations in a new gene that leads
to clinical problems that overlap very much with Rett Syndrome.
The new gene works in ways that are different to the known Rett gene, but our researchers
in Australia think they may be able to find a link between the two, and are currently setting
up experiments to look at this.
If researchers gain new insights into Rett Syndrome because of this, it may give them other
avenues to explore in terms of possible treatments, although this is a little way off just yet.
